Description:

• Body length of workers (highly variable - Polymorphic) 1.8 - 3.5 mm.
•This ant is dark brown to blackish brown, and usually with a conspicuous yellow area mediobasally.
•A relatively large Monomorium species; Body yellowish brown to reddish brown from head to postpetiole; gaster blackish brown

As pests:

Well known as a destructive species, a nuisance in heated buildings, gnawing into the likes of telephone cables. They are known to cause extensive economic damage in urban environments by gnawing holes in fabric and rubber goods, removing rubber insulation from electric and phone lines, and damaging polyethylene cable.

Pest control:

Control involves application of insecticides in various forms including dusts and liquids. The dusts are injected directly into galleries and voids where the ants are living.
The liquids are applied in areas where foraging ants are likely to pick the material up and spread the poison to the colony upon returning.
